SBI Optimistic to Maintain Positive Performance Approaching the End of 2023

Jakarta (27/10) – PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (“SBI” or “the Company”) reported its financial performance for the third quarter of 2023 with a comparative summary as follows:

As of the third quarter of 2023, SBI recorded revenues of Rp8.96 trillion. Despite challenges from tight market competition and increased production and distribution costs impacted by rising fuel prices, SBI maintained positive performance with a net profit of Rp553 billion. This achievement also stemmed from reduced financial costs, innovation programs, and efficiencies implemented across various lines, as well as sustained utilization of alternative raw materials and fuels to mitigate current energy and raw material cost challenges.

Infrastructure development realization and National Strategic Projects (PSN), especially in Java Island, contributed to the ready-mix concrete and aggregate business lines, with ready-mix concrete sales volumes increasing by 3% and aggregate by 2% compared to the same period last year. For the remainder of 2023, infrastructure development, including PSN, is expected to continue smoothly despite industry and market challenges amid a political year.

Responding to the third quarter 2023 performance results, SBI’s President Director, Lilik Unggul Raharjo, expressed confidence in achieving solid company performance. He emphasized that synergy with SIG as the parent company and strategic partnerships with Taiheiyo Cement Corporation (TCC) ensure efficient operations, add value, and enhance collaboration with stakeholders to achieve sustainable development.

“We are optimistic about achieving performance targets as market conditions evolve. SBI continues to strengthen its synergy with SIG and strategic partner TCC, ensuring efficient operations, delivering added value, and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders to realize sustainable development,” said Lilik Unggul Raharjo.

Strengthening Commitment to Sustainability through Decarbonization

The commitment to sustainability principles, which serve as a competitive advantage for the Company, has enabled SBI to gain trust from various parties, including local governments, to contribute to sustainable city development. This includes converting urban waste into Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF). SBI has partnered with local governments such as Aceh Besar Regency, Cilacap Regency, Banyumas Regency, DKI Jakarta Province, Temanggung Regency, and waste managers in Bali for RDF utilization collaborations.

Up until the third quarter, 1.25 million tons of processed waste and refuse have been utilized as fuel and alternative materials for production across SBI’s cement plants. This contributes to a 14% reduction in CO2 emissions per ton of equivalent cement (baseline 2010), achieving 587 kg CO2/ton of equivalent cement, primarily through increased substitution of heat energy from fossil fuels to alternative fuels by 12%. Additionally, SBI continues to promote low-carbon cement production, pilot projects such as Hydrogen Rich Gases Injection into combustion zones, and automation and digitalization in production processes to drive operational decarbonization.

SBI’s efforts in reducing CO2 emissions also include innovations that introduce environmentally-friendly products with lower carbon emissions.

In early 2023, SBI and PT Empat Mitra Indika Tenaga Surya (“EMITS”) signed a contract to develop and build a solar power plant with a capacity of up to 7 MWp, which will be operated at the Tuban Plant and is expected to commence operations next year.

In addition to utilizing alternative fuels, energy, and materials for decarbonization efforts, SBI has partnered with the Energy Studies Center of Gadjah Mada University to pilot the development and cultivation of microalgae at the Cilacap Plant as a biomass-based initiative for CO2 absorption. This innovation represents an effort to absorb carbon emissions within operational environments.
