Jepara, July 3, 2025 – PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, through its environmentally friendly waste management division, Nathabumi, collaborated with Got Bag Indonesia Foundation in organizing a Beach Clean-Up at Teluk Awur Beach, Tahunan District, Jepara, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. The clean-up was attended by Anisah Salmah, Head of Waste Management Division of the Environmental Office of Jepara Regency, Budi Yuliadi Nugraha, Head of Alternative Fuel & Raw Materials (AFR) Division of PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, and Billy Adrianto, Director of Got Bag Indonesia Foundation.
According to data from Sustainable Waste Indonesia, as of 2024, plastic consumption in Indonesia had reached 26.5 kg per capita per year, with 60% of plastic consumption coming from the food and beverage sector. Around 477 kilotons of plastic waste have been managed and converted into alternative fuels using Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) and Waste-to-Energy technologies.
However, approximately 19% of the 5.54 million tons of plastic waste remains unmanaged, with a significant portion likely ending up in the ocean.
Budi Yuliadi Nugraha, Head of AFR at PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, stated that the collaboration between Nathabumi and Got Bag Indonesia Foundation represents a new partnership aimed at expanding the company’s contribution to creating a healthier environment for society.
“After pioneering the first RDF technology implementation in Indonesia, Nathabumi now collaborates with 16 regional governments for RDF utilization. Together with Got Bag Indonesia, we are giving marine plastic—especially low-value and non-recyclable waste—a second chance by processing it into RDF,” explained Budi Yuliadi Nugraha.
At Solusi Bangun Indonesia, Nathabumi operates a business line focused on procuring alternative raw materials and fuels for the production of cement under the Semen Andalas and Dynamix brands. This business line supports the commitment of Solusi Bangun Indonesia—part of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG)—to applying circular economy principles for reducing carbon emissions from production processes. The company’s products, including cement and ready-mix concrete, produce up to 38% less carbon emissions compared to conventional building materials. By 2024, Solusi Bangun Indonesia had successfully reduced its carbon emissions by 16.5% through various sustainability initiatives, including the use of alternative fuels.
During the clean-up event, which was attended by local residents and environmental volunteers, Anisah Salmah expressed appreciation for the initiative by Solusi Bangun Indonesia and Got Bag Indonesia Foundation.
“This activity is a tangible example of synergy and collaboration among stakeholders, which is essential for environmental conservation. I hope this initiative becomes a model and source of inspiration, particularly in addressing coastal waste problems—not only in Jepara, but across various regions in Indonesia,” said Anisah Salmah.
The plastic waste collected during the Beach Clean-Up was brought ashore to be recorded, packed, and sent to the Solusi Bangun Indonesia waste processing facility in Tuban, East Java, where it will be processed into RDF as a substitute for fossil fuels.
Meanwhile, Billy Adrianto, Director of Got Bag Indonesia Foundation, emphasized that the Beach Clean-Up is not just a clean-up activity but also an educational effort. Carrying the mission of “Turning Trash into Purpose,” the foundation works with coastal communities, local fishermen, and industries to collect, sort, and reuse ocean plastic that pollutes Indonesia’s marine ecosystems.
