The Only One from the Cement Industry, Solusi Bangun Indonesia Wins 2024 Green Industry Award

Jakarta, September 19, 2024 – PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI), a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), through its Tuban Plant, has successfully become the only cement company to win the Green Industry Award from the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia. This award was given in the category of Industrial Company with the Best Efficiency Efforts in the Application of Green Industry, announced at the Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit (AIGIS) in Jakarta on September 19, 2024. The award was presented by Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Industrial Policy Standardization Agency of the Ministry of Industry, to Priyatno, General Manager of SBI Tuban Plant.

Asri Mukhtar, President Director of SBI, stated that this award is a testament to SBI’s commitment to supporting the transformation towards a more sustainable cement industry in the future. “Sustainability has become a core value and priority for SBI, not only as a form of compliance but also as a responsibility for the future of the environment. We continue to innovate by introducing new initiatives and solutions focused on operational excellence and accelerating the transformation towards a green industry that is ready to face the challenges of a low-carbon economy. This also provides us with a competitive edge in both domestic and international markets,” said Asri Mukhtar.

Bambang Irawan, Head of the Environment and Transportation Agency of Tuban Regency, also praised the sustainability performance achieved by SBI Tuban Plant. “We greatly appreciate the achievements of SBI Tuban. This award is an example that should be followed by other industries in Tuban, so we can collectively realize the Indonesian Government’s commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060,” said Bambang Irawan.

In line with the targets set in the SBI 2030 Sustainability Road Map, the Tuban Plant has implemented several key initiatives, including thermal energy efficiency through energy management, automation and digitalization, optimization of alternative fuel usage to reduce coal consumption, and the installation of solar panels with a capacity of up to 6.39 MWp, which helps improve electricity efficiency. In the social sector, SBI Tuban Plant also involves local communities in social innovations through the establishment of creative village groups that support digitalization and integrated farming.

Asri Mukhtar also emphasized the importance of cross-stakeholder collaboration in achieving common sustainability goals. He highlighted an example of collaboration in the utilization of urban waste processed into refuse-derived fuel (RDF). “Currently, we are collaborating with several local governments to use RDF as an alternative fuel in the cement production process. At the Tuban Plant, the RDF used comes from East Java and Bali as a partial replacement for coal. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, this solution also helps local governments manage waste and create a healthier environment for the community,” explained Asri Mukhtar.
