Strengthening the Foundation of Sustainability, Solusi Bangun Indonesia Focuses on Advancing Low-Carbon Cement

Jakarta, March 28, 2025 – PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (“the Company”) continues to demonstrate that industrial performance can go hand in hand with environmental responsibility. Amid a contracting domestic market and weakening consumer purchasing power, this subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) remains committed to sustainability as a competitive advantage, delivering low-carbon cement for various customer development projects.

Indonesia’s cement industry continues to face challenges from market oversupply and tight domestic competition. The Indonesian Cement Association recorded that domestic cement sales in 2024 reached 64.9 million tons, down 0.9% from 65.5 million tons in 2023. In addition, slowing government infrastructure projects—both in Java and other regions including the new capital city (IKN) in East Kalimantan—and an incomplete recovery in the property sector have also impacted the cement industry in 2024.

By the end of 2024, the Company reported total cement and clinker sales volume of 13.19 million tons. Revenue reached IDR 11.82 trillion, with gross profit of IDR 2.55 trillion and net profit of IDR 745 billion. Despite the industry-wide pressure on sales, strong financial management enabled the Company to reduce financial expenses by 2.2% compared to 2023.

Responding to the Company’s performance, President Director of PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, Asri Mukhtar, stated that the Company will continue to strengthen competitiveness across all areas through synergy with SIG. “Solusi Bangun Indonesia is preparing strategies to enhance competitiveness this year by delivering innovative, low-carbon products, customer-friendly features such as digital transactions, and improved efficiency and reliability in production to maintain profitability,” said Asri Mukhtar.

Strong Commitment to Green Industrial Transition

Solusi Bangun Indonesia’s commitment to sustainability principles is rooted in urgency. “Today, development is not only about structural strength, but also about environmental responsibility,” emphasized Asri.

This commitment is evidenced by the Company’s achievement of two Gold PROPER Awards for its plants in Cilacap (Central Java) and Lhoknga (Aceh, operated by PT Solusi Bangun Andalas), as well as one Green PROPER Award for the Tuban Plant (East Java) from the Ministry of Environment.

Asri highlighted that the PROPER awards reflect optimal environmental performance, social innovation, and strong collaboration among the company, communities, and stakeholders in achieving sustainable development. “This recognition serves as both an achievement and a motivation for us to continue innovating and contributing to long-term business value and positive impact for society and ecosystems,” he said.

Among the initiatives in the 2030 Sustainability Roadmap, Solusi Bangun Indonesia has launched a large-scale solar panel project at its Tuban Plant and continues to expand the use of alternative fuels from biomass, RDF, and suitable industrial waste to substitute fossil fuels and raw materials. In 2024, the Company successfully reduced carbon emissions by 16.6%, bringing it down to 572 kg CO2 per ton of cement equivalent, from the 2010 baseline of 685 kg CO2.

On the social front, Solusi Bangun Indonesia recorded a total of 1.1 million community beneficiaries through its development and empowerment programs in 2024—an increase from 959,000 in 2023. All four plants also earned “Approval” status in the Social License Index, highlighting the Company’s success in maintaining positive community relationships.

In addition to the Gold and Green PROPER awards from the Ministry of Environment, the Company’s sustainability strategies also earned it accolades at the 2024 Investing on Climate Editor’s Choice Awards held at the Indonesia Stock Exchange: “The Best Green Product” and “The Best Literacy for Climate Resilience” — reinforcing its position as a provider of sustainable, high-quality building material solutions.

Supporting Smooth and Safe 2025 Eid Homecoming Through Strategic Toll Infrastructure

As Eid 2025 approaches, a period known for mass travel across Indonesia, the Company has supplied bulk cement and fast-drying innovative concrete for construction and repair of major toll road sections vital to homecoming routes. These include the Cikopo-Palimanan Toll, Probolinggo-Banyuwangi Toll, Serang-Panimbang Toll, Jakarta-Cikampek Toll, Cimanggis-Cibitung Toll, and TransSumatra segments like the Tebing Tinggi and Pematang Siantar Toll Roads.

“We fully support reliable infrastructure development that enables safe, comfortable, and efficient mobility. Using sustainable cement and green solutions, we believe strong infrastructure is the foundation for economic growth and equitable development throughout Indonesia,” said Asri.

Business Outlook for 2025

The Company sees potential for relatively stable growth in the domestic cement market this year. To tap into this opportunity and diversify its revenue streams, Solusi Bangun Indonesia is preparing for export market expansion in synergy with SIG and strategic partner Taiheiyo Cement Corporation.

“The key is innovation—delivering added value to be the top customer choice. Our product portfolio positions us to serve everything from retail to large-scale construction by optimizing production and distribution networks in synergy with SIG,” Asri explained.

He also noted that the export initiative aims not only to broaden market access but also to improve plant utilization rates. “Our plan to enter the U.S. market reflects Solusi Bangun Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing competitiveness and expanding its global footprint,” Asri concluded.
