Jakarta, 25 February 2025 – The consistent innovation and commitment of PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI) in applying sustainability principles have once again received national recognition with the awarding of two Gold PROPER awards and one Green PROPER by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) of the Republic of Indonesia. The Gold PROPER awards were granted to the Cilacap Plant in Central Java and the Lhoknga Plant in Aceh (operated by subsidiary PT Solusi Bangun Andalas), while the Green PROPER was awarded to the Tuban Plant in East Java. SBI President Director, Asri Mukhtar, also received the Intermediate Green Leadership Award during the PROPER award ceremony at Sasono Langen Budoyo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, on 24 February 2025.
In his opening speech, Minister of Environment and Forestry, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, emphasized that PROPER not only enforces environmental compliance but also fosters ecological and social innovation.
“PROPER encourages companies not just to improve regulatory compliance but also to aspire toward becoming world-class players in environmental management,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
SBI President Director Asri Mukhtar stated that the PROPER awards symbolize the collaborative spirit among the Company, local communities, and stakeholders in implementing sustainability strategies, driving eco-innovation, and empowering communities as part of the company’s roadmap toward net-zero emissions by 2050.
“These Gold and Green PROPER achievements reflect our commitment to going beyond regulatory compliance, generating real impact for the environment and empowering communities surrounding our operations,” said Asri. He also extended appreciation to all employees, recognizing that this success is the result of their collective dedication to resource efficiency, social innovation, and environmentally responsible operations.
“SBI remains committed to continuing these sustainability efforts as part of our corporate responsibility to create positive value for the environment, society, and all stakeholders,” he added.
Through strategic initiatives aligned with the Sustainability Roadmap 2030, SBI—a subsidiary of SIG—continues to solidify its leadership as a responsible and sustainable building materials company in Indonesia.
“These awards are the result of the unwavering dedication and commitment of our teams across all regions. Thank you for continuously ensuring that our business operates responsibly and delivers long-lasting impact,” said Asri Mukhtar.
Cilacap: Gold Award Streak, Proof of Long-Term Sustainability Commitment
The Gold PROPER received by SBI’s Cilacap Plant marks its eighth Gold PROPER award, driven by innovative, environmentally friendly waste management through the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facility in Jeruklegi, Cilacap. Using bio-membrane technology, this facility reduces waste moisture content from 55% to 25% through a biodrying process, increases calorific value to 15 MJ/kg, and processes 160 tons of waste per day into clean alternative fuel.
On the social side, the Cilacap Plant launched the Baruwani Circular Hub, a collaborative space that promotes community-based productive waste management. It also serves as a center for social activities, inspiring community participation in building a sustainable environmental ecosystem.
Aceh’s First Gold, a Symbol of Continuous Innovation and Collaboration
PT Solusi Bangun Andalas earned its first Gold PROPER through several initiatives, including the use of discarded wood pallets as alternative fuel, rainwater harvesting in production, emission reduction through coffee husk fuel, and the use of pozzolan in cement production, resulting in 32% lower carbon emissions compared to conventional cement.
In the community sphere, the company implemented the “Solusi Bersama” program to protect coastal and marine ecosystems, managing 300 kg of plastic waste per month, and processing coconut fiber into economically valuable coco fiber capable of filtering up to 500 liters of wastewater per week. Empowerment initiatives also include Hong Kong caterpillar farming for quail feed, providing new livelihood opportunities for vulnerable groups and boosting environmental resilience and social welfare.
Tuban’s Green PROPER: Biomass Fuel and Community Empowerment
The Tuban Plant adopted biomass fuels—such as corn cobs, rice husks, and tree branches—as alternatives to coal, supporting clean energy transitions while engaging local communities as biomass suppliers and creating sustainable business opportunities.
On the empowerment part, the Tuban Plant manages water reservoirs (embung) in its mining area, supplying irrigation for farming in neighboring villages. The “Banyusora” program supports agricultural productivity from cultivation to product marketing. Through this holistic approach, the Tuban Plant contributes to both environmental sustainability and social and economic development in surrounding communities.
