Jakarta, June 5, 2025 – The building materials industry often faces various environmental challenges, such as high carbon emissions and the availability of natural resources. However, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk proves that this sector can also be part of the solution to the environmental crisis.
Through a series of initiatives outlined in the 2030 Sustainability Roadmap, Solusi Bangun Indonesia— a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG)— has implemented approaches that include the development of low-carbon products, utilization of renewable energy, waste management based on circular economy principles, water conservation, improved workplace safety, and community empowerment around its operational areas.
In recognition of its commitment and sustainability achievements in 2024, Solusi Bangun Indonesia was awarded two Gold PROPERs and one Green PROPER by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia.
Asri Mukhtar, President Director of Solusi Bangun Indonesia, emphasized that sustainability has become the foundation of the company’s long-term business strategy and competitive advantage. “At Solusi Bangun Indonesia, every initiative we undertake is an investment and an acceleration toward a resilient and sustainable development and environment,” said Asri Mukhtar.
Realizing Sustainability through Innovation and Social Responsibility
As of the first quarter of 2025, 43.5% of the company’s revenue came from sustainable products and services, including eight types of cement certified with the Green Label Gold. The use of solar power (PLTS) and alternative fuels contributed to a 15.9% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the 2010 baseline. Additionally, alternative fuels helped achieve a thermal substitution rate of 13.9%.
In terms of water conservation, Solusi Bangun Indonesia has implemented an integrated water management system across all its plants. One example is the use of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and the Internet of Things (IoT) at the Narogong Plant, which successfully reduced fresh and river water consumption by 39,402 m³ in 2024.
Modifications to underground water pipelines have also improved water use efficiency in cement kiln units and reduced corrosion and water loss risks. These implementations support operational efficiency and better water resource management, enabling the company to save up to 138,122 m³ of water in kiln cement production processes.
Efforts to conserve clean water resources also include rainwater harvesting and wastewater recycling. These initiatives are systematically implemented across all company operations to support more efficient and responsible production. In 2024 alone, the company utilized 617,890 m³ of rainwater and 539,504 m³ of recycled water across all operational areas.
In waste management, including plastic waste, Solusi Bangun Indonesia has supported and empowered the Generasi Milenial Waste Bank (Basagemil) in Lhoknga, Aceh, and partnered with GotBag Indonesia Foundation to collect 5–10 tons of marine waste per month. Marine and coastal waste is processed by Nathabumi, the company’s environmentally friendly waste management division, into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) at the Tuban Plant. Furthermore, Solusi Bangun Indonesia has collaborated with 16 local governments across Sumatra, Java, and Bali to use RDF as an alternative fuel to coal.
In terms of social responsibility, since 2019, the company’s corporate social responsibility programs have positively impacted over 1.4 million beneficiaries. All Solusi Bangun Indonesia cement plants have achieved “Approval” status in the Social License Index, reflecting community acceptance and recognition of the company’s presence and contributions in its operational regions.
“The 2025 World Environment Day is a momentum to reinforce the importance of the business sector’s role in supporting the transition to a green economy. Solusi Bangun Indonesia remains committed to responsible operational practices aligned with its decarbonization targets and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said Asri Mukhtar.
