Jakarta, January 31, 2023 – The Indonesian government’s commitment to accelerating carbon emission reduction targets has become a focus for state-owned enterprises exploring decarbonization initiatives, exemplified by PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI), a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), through a solar panel project at one of SBI’s cement plants located in Tuban, East Java.
Indonesia’s geographical position along the equator, with average solar irradiation of 4.80 kWh/m2/day, presents significant potential for utilizing solar energy as an alternative source. The Tuban plant specifically benefits from above-average solar irradiation of 5.4 kWh/m2/day nationally, reinforcing SBI’s decision to commence development of an on-grid solar facility with an installed capacity of up to 7 Mwp, based on feasibility study results.
“In addition to utilizing alternative fuels to replace coal in cement production, solar energy is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to sustainable development. By achieving more efficient operations, this project contributes to SIG’s decarbonization efforts in support of government programs and as part of global collective efforts to preserve our planet,” said Lilik Unggul Raharjo, CEO of SBI. SBI signed a solar panel project contract with PT Energi Mitra Indika Tenaga Surya (EMITS) in Narogong on January 31, 2023, marking the utilization of solar energy as a substitute for electricity in factory operations, offices, and other supporting facilities. This project serves as a pilot for rooftop solar panel installations on a scalable basis.
