Jakarta, February 3, 2025 – Kicking off the year 2025, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI), a subsidiary of SIG, continues to expand its partnership with regional governments on the utilization of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gunungkidul Regency Government. The MoU was signed in Jakarta on February 3, 2025, by Gunungkidul Regent Suryananta and SBI’s Director of Manufacturing, Soni Asrul Sani, and witnessed by SBI’s Director of Finance & Risk Management, Ony Suprihartono; Assistant for Government and Welfare Affairs of Gunungkidul, Dewi Irawaty; and other officials from the regency.
Gunungkidul Regency generates approximately 0.49 kilograms of waste per person per day, which is below the national average of 0.68 kilograms. The local government has issued regulations on the management of household and similar types of waste, aiming to shift the paradigm from waste as a burden to waste as a resource with economic value for the community.
In his remarks, Gunungkidul Regent Suryananta emphasized that the partnership with SBI represents a crucial step in tackling the region’s waste challenges.
“We have implemented a variety of waste management programs in recent years, both in scale and type. Community involvement and collaboration with SBI further strengthen our commitment to sustainable waste management that benefits both the environment and local society,” said Suryananta.
As a pioneer in RDF technology application in Indonesia, SBI—through its environmentally friendly waste management division, Nathabumi—has already established collaborations with around 15 regional governments across the country. SBI’s Director of Finance and Risk Management, Ony Suprihartono, underlined that these partnerships are a tangible contribution to resolving local waste problems.
“Beyond infrastructure development, we aim to be part of the solution in building better living conditions—especially through the optimization of facilities and technology, such as the use of RDF as an alternative fuel in cement production,” added Ony.
Through this collaboration, the Wukisari Final Waste Processing Facility (TPAS) in Gunungkidul—with a daily capacity of 75 tons—is expected to produce up to 30 tons of RDF per day. The three-year partnership stipulates that the RDF will be transported to SBI’s cement plant in Cilacap to be used as a coal substitute in the production process.
