Expanding Urban Waste Management Collaboration, Solusi Bangun Indonesia Signs RDF Partnership with Gunungkidul Regency Government

Jakarta, 3 February 2025 – Kicking off the year with a strong commitment to sustainability, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI), a subsidiary of SIG, has expanded its partnership with local governments in utilizing refuse-derived fuel (RDF) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gunungkidul Regency Government. The MoU was signed by Gunungkidul Regent Suryananta and SBI Director of Manufacturing Soni Asrul Sani in Jakarta on 3 February 2025, witnessed by SBI Director of Finance & Risk Management Ony Suprihartono, Gunungkidul Assistant for Government and Welfare Dewi Irawaty, and other local government officials.

Gunungkidul Regency generates around 0.49 kilograms of waste per capita per day, lower than the national average of 0.68 kilograms. The local government has enacted regulations on the management of household and similar waste, aiming to shift the paradigm from waste as a burden to waste as a valuable resource that can support community-level economic improvement.

In his remarks, Regent Suryananta stated that the partnership with SBI marks a crucial step in addressing the region’s waste management challenges.
“Gunungkidul Regency has implemented various dynamic waste management programs in both scale and variety. Community involvement and collaboration with SBI strengthen our efforts to build a more sustainable waste management system that benefits both the environment and local residents,” said Suryananta.

As a pioneer in RDF technology adoption in Indonesia, SBI—through its environmentally friendly waste management division, Nathabumi—has established partnerships with approximately 15 regional governments across the country. SBI Director of Finance and Risk Management Ony Suprihartono emphasized that this collaboration reflects a tangible step toward regional waste solutions.

“Beyond physical development, we aim to be part of creating better living conditions through optimizing facilities and technologies—such as our use of RDF as an alternative fuel in cement production,” said Ony Suprihartono.

Through this collaboration, Gunungkidul Regency will supply RDF produced at the Wukisari Final Waste Processing Site (TPAS), which has a capacity of 75 tons per day and is expected to produce around 30 tons of RDF daily. The cooperation will span three years, during which the RDF will be transported to SBI’s cement plant in Cilacap to replace coal as an alternative fuel source.
